April 2006: Hi - I just wanted to let you know Appleton and Shorewood Hills, Wisconsin have 100% smoke-free workplace ordinances. (bars and restaurants)
Appleton voters passed a referendum April 05 (56% percent support for smoke-free workplaces). Bar owners got signatures to put forth another referendum this April asking to exempt bars and restaraunts with bars among other things and the voters once again voted to keep all workplaces smoke-free this time 57% and a wider spread! We couldn't be happier!

July 2005: Madison: smoking was banned from restaurants, taverns, bowling alleys, sports arenas, and a significant part of hotels. Details here:

OSHKOSH

Jansen's Bar & Restaurant
344 Bowen St (Corner of Bowen & Winnebago)   (920) 231-0690
[April 2007] I recently found this place and wanted to share it with others because it's the type of place non-smokers rarely get to enjoy: an old style corner tavern in a residential neighborhood just east of the downtown, with delicious homemade food and where mostly the locals eat. It's a step back in time without the smoke!
In addition to the usual "bar & grill" fare on the menu, you can download a calendar at their web site with their daily specials, and each week there's also a sandwich special. I happened to be there for the BBQ Brisket, which was a big slab of tender beef, twice-baked tater, beans and cole slaw for $6.50.
It's 100% smoke-free, and they have a sign over the bar saying "If you're smoking in here, you'd better be on fire."
It's fairly easy to find using the map at their web site. It's about 10 minutes off US-41, and about 3 minutes from UW-Oshkosh, just a few blocks to the east of Main Street. Enjoy!
Thanks to Gerri!

WEST BEND

Riverside Brewery & Restaurant
255 South Main Street     262-334-2739
I was happy to see that when I went out to the Riverside Brewery in West Bend Wisconsin with my friend it was smoke free. They serve food so that was part of the reason but being in the small town of West Bend they were really taking a chance. In fact my friend and I were so reluctant to go out at all because we thought we'd have to encounter smoke. On a Tuesday night after the kitchen closed the bar was full of people. Since Tuesday is normally very slow in small towns in WI, the fact that this place was full was amazing. There are many other bars in this town that allow smoking. If a place like that in West Bend WI can go smoke free then we all can.
Thanks to Ms. TH Kempf
