If you want to quit, now or maybe someday,
and you need help or moral support, the following links may be useful.
STOP! Magazine
For "people who want to stop smoking and for anyone interested in what it takes to quit successfully."
Written by specialists with a stated policy of impartiality and published bimonthly, in the UK and the US.
We get a number of e-mails asking how to help a relative or friend to quit.
That's not what we concentrate on, so we often refer people to STOP!
It seems pretty upbeat and fun, not preachy, and might make a non-irritating
gift subscription to a loved one :} Can it help someone quit?
Since we don't smoke, we can't say, but we liked the article about Cigarette Smoking Man from the X-Files. (He isn't!)
alt.support.nonsmokers
A USENET mutual encouragement newsgroup. Also has a web site:
http://www.swen.uwaterloo.ca/~bpekilis/as3/index.html
Quitnet
Also accessible through AOL.
The Truth
Pretty glam. Dedicated to the effects of tobacco on the body you're walking or skateboarding around in.
Maybe a dose of their righteous anger will help if you need motivation.
A good source of gross pictures if you're working on that school report.
There's a fairly flashy non-Flash version if you're tired of being told you need one more plug-in.
They're hipper than we are.
Stop Smoking Ring Homepage
Bill Carroll - The Stop Smoking Man
Bill quit after 30 years of smoking 2 to 3 packs a day.
Different strokes for different folks, but maybe he knows something.
The "How to Quit Smoking Without Willpower or Struggle" Forum
Massachusetts resources on smoking cessation
The Tobacco Free Network lists smoking cessation resources (clinics, etc.) in Northeast Massachusetts.
We do not know how they decide to list providers; we are not experts in this area but hope the information will be useful.
University of Wisconsin Center for Tobacco Research and Intervention
Academic clinic established to help smokers quit and help young people not start.
Physical work-ups, medical counseling and support groups.
