A listing of local smokefree dining and entertainment venues.
Dec. 2005: The Pacific Coast Restaurant Corporation has banned smoking through its locations, which are mostly in and around Portland. PCR owns Henry's 12th Street Station, Manzana (Lincoln Square, Bellevue), Newport Bay, Newport Seafood Grill (Lloyd Center, Portland), Portland Steak & Chophouse, Portland City Grill and Stanfords, among 27 restaurants.
In 2000, smoking was banned in most workplaces (including most restaurants of any size) in Multnomah County (Portland Metropolitan area). Many other venues are exempt, so listings are still welcome, especially of venues which are voluntarily smokefree. Note: Many pubs, theaters and ballrooms of the McMenamin's chain are entirely nonsmoking.

October 2004: Many thanks to the Multnomah County Health Department for new listings. These venues voluntarily ban smoking in bar areas (or, in a few cases, are smokefree stand-alone bars).

The key points:
All workplaces are required to be smokefree, except for bars, bar sections of restaurants, tobacco retailers, bowling centers, and bingo halls.
The stricter laws in Corvallis, Eugene, and Multnomah County still apply in those locales.

Restaurant, bar and dance club. This classy nightspot seems to be part of the backlash against Portland's ubiquitous dive bars. A strict dress code, excellent bartenders, a busy dancefloor and interesting food are drawing a classy crowd who appears to be tired of Stumptown's "dress down for all occasions" attitude. Very busy and clubby on weekend nights, but quiet and cozy during the week, this is a spot to take clients and out-of-town visitors to show them that Portland does have a little class after all.
