The up market shopping street Beethovenstraat is nearby, exuberant Amsterdam night life is not far away either. The neighbourhood was designed as a part of "Plan Amsterdam Zuid" by the famous architect and town planner Berlage in the 1930's, one of the secrets of Amsterdam: the unspoiled art deco district. The architectural style is called the "Amsterdamse School." Rubens B&B has been renovated and brought back to its original style with modern comforts. The apartment is decorated in the European style of the 20's and 30's. Rubens B&B has decorated its rooms in different styles: Art Deco and traditional Frisian, from the town of Hindeloopen. The rooms have double beds. Art Deco Room with the option of a private bathroom.
Rubens B & B is owned and operated by two Dutch guys: Tjeerd Visser, born in Friesland, who works for the international branch of the Dutch Postal organization and Franklin Wollring, an Amsterdam local, who was a purser with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. Cafe/bar. Wagamama's is a great place for quick meal - a steaming bowl of spicy noodles. The environment is pretty simple, and it apparently has access for disabled people. The restaurant is smoke free, but the bar part isn't - it can get cloudy there, but it's a long way from the food.

The restaurant itself is completely non-smoking, but you do enter via the
(usually) smoke-filled bar downstairs. There are actually two separate places of business at the same address: the ground floor is the bar ('t Syndicaat) which is usually smoke-filled but occasionally will
do a no-smoking event (didn't check out the details - the barman was smoking!).

running a combination catering/take-out/lunch shop with a restaurant
around the corner in back for those wanting to sit in style. Specialties
from Lyon range from simple sandwiches and salads to homemade foie gras
(Duck!) with cognac, various lyon sausages, mushroom souffles in lobster
sauce, as well as a menu that changes daily. Both lunch shop and
restaurant are completely smoke-free.

The first totally smokefree high standard restaurant in the Netherlands, so it's really smokefree!
It is hard to find smokefree entertainment in Rotterdam.
In Rotterdam you can smoke in 99,9% of the restaurants. Some restaurants pretend to be smokefree but most of the time its still very smoky because of an open smoking section.
In this restaurant all guests are welcomed at 1900 hrs. At 1930 hrs. The first course is presented by the patron cuisinier himself, followed by the sommelier. It's all about the combination of good food and wines here. This will happen for over ten times in one evening, so you will get a eleven course menu with special selected wines, and it's all smokefree! The average costs are about € 75,00 for ten courses, wines, coffee and a special selected tablewater (Staatl Fachingen). The evening lasts till 2330 hrs, so it's a full evening of dining entertainment: every customer is only 3 meters away from the stove, so you can actually see what's happening. The restaurant has openend its doors in the summer of 2006 and was qualified as the most succesful restaurant of 2006 by Iens Independent Index (www.iens.nl), and is also known as one of the top five restaurants of Rotterdam. And I love it!
