Smoking is now banned from most public places by the Mexican Health Ministry, including
airports, bus and train stations and schools. In hospitals, smoking is confined to certain areas.
This is supposed to be backed up by fines. We don't know whether this is enforced.

Update 2004: Restaurants are supposed to set aside 40% of their space to nonsmokers, but we don't assume this is really happening, or that the separation is meaningful.

I don't know if this restaurant is smoke-free or not, but there is a big terrace in front of the restaurant with plenty of clean, fresh air, right on the town square where you can watch people go by. A bottle of beer and a fish taco there is one of life's real small pleasures.
Ajijic is right in the middle of a large colony of U.S. and
Canadian retirees, so anyone you stopped to ask directions would probably
know enough English to answer you.

Básicamente 'no fumo' ya. Sirven el alimento sano que es lo que buscan muchos no-fumadores primero quando buscan para un ambiente no-fumo. Eran muy sympatico a las necesidades de la gente con enfermedad respiratoria y se parecen dispuestos a ser uno del primer para promover un ambiente non-fumo.
Basically smokefree already. They serve healthy food which is what many nonsmokers look for first when searching for a smokefree environment. They were very sympathic to the needs of people with respiratory disease and seem willing to be one of the first to promote a smokefree indoor environment.
