CALCUTTA
Thanks to the Non-Smokers Association of India for information about Calcutta. NOSA encourages youth to stay smokefree, and promotes the rights of nonsmokers. According to NOSA, the Calcutta underground railway is supposed to be nonsmoking. The Tata business center is a nonsmoking building. And, ironically, the Indian Tobacco Company office is supposed to be nonsmoking.

MUMBAI (BOMBAY)
Thanks to Dr. P. C. Gupta for the following witty advice: Smokefree dining is not impossible however, if one goes to one of those
strongly ethnic eating houses that are run with assembly-line efficiency.
One gets into queue (very often), takes a vacant chair (often in bench
formation), is attended by an array of waiters with a dozen or more items
ready to replenish before one finishes a served portion (almost no choice),
can eat to the hearts content but get out immediately thereafter.
Non-Indians are rarely seen at such places.
