Entirely non-smoking tea salon. Soft, lulling music and friendly service make for a pleasant experience at this delightful Taiwanese tea salon. The selection of food is somewhat limited, but there's enough to choose from for a light meal. My five-fragrance chicken, though not very filling, was attractively presented (I thought the small smattering of sesame seeds sprinkled on top of the rice was a nice touch). The vegetables, for their part, weren't as oily as what I usually find in Asian restaurants here. The menu lists 38 variety of teas. Open for lunch from Tuesday through Friday (11:30 to 2), for dinner Friday and Saturday (7-10:30), and for afternoon tea Monday through Saturday (3-6:30).
De la musique douce et un service aimable créent une expérience agréable dans cette charmante maison de thé taiwanaise. La sélection de nourriture est assez limitée, mais il y a assez de choses parmi lesquelles choisir pour un léger repas. Mon poulet aux cinq parfums, quoiqu'assez peu nourrissant, était pr´senté avec une attention ˆ l'esthétique (j'ai trouv´ les quelques graines de sésame saupoudrées sur le riz d'être une touche sympa). Les légumes, pour leur part, n'étaient pas aussi grasses que ce que je trouve d'habitude dans les restaurants asiatiques ici. La carte propose 38 varietes de thé. Ouvert pour le déjeuner du mardi au vendredi (11h30-14h), le diner vendredi et samedi (19h-22h30), et le thé du lundi au samedi (15h-18h30).

I've heard that you just can't get decent Mexican food in France. Alas, this Tex-Mex, theme restaurant only reinforces that stereotype. Still, the cuisine IS a rarity in Grenoble.
Upon entering, we were offered smoking or non-smoking seating. The windowless non-smoking room is in the back, not separated from the smoking room by a door; decor includes red walls, an (apparently) fake tree, and wood-panelled flooring. My fajita on the whole was decent, though the guacamole and refried beans were unmemorable. We ate relatively early, and there were hardly any other diners, but the restaurant's lively colors and waitresses dressed as cowgirls can only lead me to believe that the place gets more exciting later on.

Entirely non-smoking restaurant. Adorably charming decor complements gorgeous arrays of food at this vegetarian restaurant. The food, served on large plates, is delicious, with the lunchtime dish (there's only one) changing daily, and dinner offerings updated every four months. A softspoken man greets and serves customers, while his wife prepares the attractive culinary creations. Bread is homemade. The lunch plate costs 10.20 euros (14 with desert), while set-price dinner menus range from 15 to 24 euros. Lunch Tuesday through Saturday, dinner Tuesday through Friday.

Completely smokefree by policy inside. Smoking outside only, in summer. Completely non-smoking in winter, since there are no outside tables then. This is strictly enforced, as it is just one small room with seating for about 30 people.
Everything else is smoky. This is the ONLY completely smoke-free restaurant we found in one year of living in Montpellier. We ate there weekly!
No dress code, very casual. Reasonable prices. Excellent, excellent crêpes. About 50 main course crêpes (2 full pages), and another full page of dessert crêpes. So many wonderful choices. Also excellent Reblochon salad (warm cheese over greens with fresh apple slices, walnuts, lovely sauce), and warm chèvre salad. The owners accomodate special requests and substitutions and remember what regular customers like.
Open Tuesday to Saturday, 12-14, 19->. Closed Sunday and Monday.

I've discovered a completely smoke-free traditional restaurant. A firm inn where you can feast with Savoy's specialities. There is no electricity in the hamlet of "Les Prioux", so the restaurant is enlightened with candles. Sensational frame near a river.

French steak chain restaurant
Good smoke free sections in any location. The host or hostess will
always ask you your seating preference. The food is good but service
is uneven. Non stop service from 11am. Some restaurants are even open
until 5am!
Chez Clément
French chain restaurant
Excellent dining experiences in wonderful locations. Restaurants are
beautifully decorated and each location has its own charm.
Restaurants are huge, hence they offer good smoke free sections. Note
that during remote hours (ie 2pm to 7pm), there might be only one
room opened (usually not smoke free...). Food is excellent and
service is top! Open non stop. If making a reservation via their
website, enter your non smoking preference in the "comments" field.
McDonald's
Almost every French McDonald's restaurant is smoke-free. Some
restaurants among the 800 in France are unique by their themed
decoration. Check the ones in Champs Elysees or Disney Village for
instance. Independantly run McDonald's may have a (small) smoking
floor. Very rare though.
Quick
A clone of McDonald's... Most restaurants offer at least two third of
the seating capacity to non smokers. Some restaurants are totally
smoke-free.
Columbus Café
A clone of Starbucks... French espresso bars chain. Like Starbucks,
Columbus Café have in-store locations (you might find Columbus Café
in Fnac stores, equivalent of... Barnes and Noble) and street
locations. In-store locations are always smoke-free as smoking is
never permitted in stores or shops. Street locations have various
smoking policies. Locations are very small.
Disneyland Paris restaurants

In every table service restaurant, at least half of the seating
capacity is non smoking. Wonderful dining experiences available with
an extraordinary choice of cuisine. And good smoke free experience.
> Fast food restaurants
If the restaurants are small: always smoke free. If they are huge: at
least half of the seating capacity is smoke free (sometimes two
third).
> Cafés outside the park (hotels and Disney Village)
Like any French café, smoking is still the norm. Generally less than one third of
the seating capacity is non smoking, and unfortunately, separation
is often meaningless.
> Hotels
There are 7 hotels (2 more to come) in the resort. Lots of non
smoking rooms and/or floors. Lobbies and other public places are
generally smoke free, but not always. Anyway, very few people smoke
in those areas.
Other information:
Cigarettes are not sold in the theme park. Smoking is not permitted
(nor eating or drinking) in attraction lines, attractions, shows, etc.
Fun fact: Disneyland Paris is the only Disney park where alcohol
(fine wines generally) may be served. Only with a meal at table
service restaurants.
Disneyland Paris consists of five main areas: the Magic Kingdom (the
park itself), Disney Village (a kind of Pleasure Island), the hotels,
the campground, the International Shopping Mall 'Val d'Europe'. A
second theme park, Les Studios Disney (a kind of Disney MGM Studios),
will open on April 12, 2002.

En limitant le droit de fumer dans les lieux publics et en imposant la création d'une section non-fumeur dans les restaurants, la nouvelle loi Évin fait un peu progresser les droits des non-fumeurs. Les zones non-fumeurs sont plus fréquentes dans les restaurants de plus grande taille, mais bien souvent, la séparation est plus symbolique qu'efficace. Le mieux, c'est quand il y a deux étages, avec les fumeurs en haut. Dans les petits restos, il n'y a bien souvent aucune séparation, et quand on mange en terrasse, ce qui est bien agréable l'été, on est entièrement à la merci de la table voisine.
The "Loi Evin" restricts smoking in public places, and requires a "non smoking section" in restaurants. Larger restaurants more frequently offer nonsmoking 'sections', but the separation may be meaningless. In smaller restaurants there is none, and when dining outdoors (popular in summer), you are at the mercy of your neighbor. Some listings here mention nonsmoking 'sections'. We know this is not ideal. SmokeFreeWorld's criteria depend on the community. The point is to encourage restaurants which try to cater to nonsmokers. This is a practical approach based on contacts with business owners who have found that they make more money from nonsmokers. We will be happy to raise the bar as things evolve.
Update Oct. 2002: Since 2001, Air France has banned the few remaining flights where smoking was still allowed, making Air France a 100% smoke-free company. SNCF (French Railways) has started to reduce smoking seating in their TGV: for instance it is still permitted to smoke in one car ot ouf eight. If the results are good, ie lots of travelers satisfaction, SNCF may
consider to completely ban smoking in any train.
Traveling from Paris to Grenoble on the TGV was pretty nice - I had to walk through a smoking car to get to the (smokefree) food car, but actually there was almost no one in the smoking car. Train is a great way to travel in France.
