What is Smoke Free World?
    It is a directory of smokefree eating, drinking & entertainment, and businesses of all types. It began with food and drink, but is not limited to these or to any one age group or interest.

Why is Smoke Free World??
    The founder likes beer and music, used to play music in smoky clubs where the (then) new smoking ban was not respected, got tired of smoky clothes and asthma and decided to try something positive.

Is Smoke Free World an anti-smoking site?
    No, it lists businesses to support. Put your money where your lungs are!

Is Smoke Free World against beer, dancing, name your activity...?
    No! (Especially the beer part) However, if you prohibit these things, that is your business. We have common ground.

Isn't it nonsmoking everywhere already?
    A common question in certain parts of the U.S. If you live in certain places, listen only to classical music, and never go clubbing, walk or use public transportation, it may seem so. But, although most adults do not smoke, smokers dominate much of the world's nightlife: restaurants, pubs, bars, dance & music clubs. Advertising has linked smoking with fashion and music to the extent that nonsmokers are made to feel they must either put up with it or stay home. In the US, law (and compliance with the law) differs from state to state. Laws exist in Europe and Asia, but they are new.

How many of us nonsmokers are there?
    The American Lung Association says three out of four adult Americans do not smoke. The proportions worldwide are lower, but still in the majority. That's a lot of customers! And even smokers may like a break from time to time. Also some smokers prefer their smoking separate from their meals.

Is Smoke Free World a legislative advocacy group?
    No, it is a business directory. If you feel prompted to work for change in your community, there are other resources. (see the Organizations page for a start)

Why don't you keep better track of legislation?
    (1) so many laws, so little time - there are other web sites which track this kind of thing anyway
    (2) see "Why is Smoke Free World" - bans are not necessarily respected, perhaps not for a long time.

Is Smoke Free World a smoking cessation advisor?
    No, it is a business directory. There are many other sources of information on quitting. There is a 'quitting' page on the site which offers some links, but our main focus is promoting smokefree businesses.

You mean you're not trying to nag me about my health?
    No. We're not interested in being your nanny, and we don't care about your health.

Why not?
    Just because. We do care about ours, though.

What about alcohol? Why don't you complain about that, huh? huh?
    We like alcohol. The site is what it is. You can always start your own.

Does Smoke Free World pay for reviews?
    No. Reviews must be neutral.

Does Smoke Free World charge for basic listings?
    Only in the case of hotels & B&Bs, see below. May your business prosper.

Why does Smoke Free World charge hotels & B&Bs for basic listings?
    So many hotel & B&B owners say their places are smokefree that it seems to be the standard, not an exception - the site would become unmanageable. And it helps pay the ISP fees.
