RESTAURANTS
In the World War II movie "Memphis Belle", young American flyers lie in the barracks dreaming of what they will do if they survive the war. One guy says he'll start a chain of restaurants serving the exact same food everywhere in the country. Don't be silly, says his comrade, who wants the same food everywhere you go? They'll want it, says the first guy with quiet confidence. It's comforting.
Most 'chain' restaurants listed here are in the USA, but we are happy to learn of smokefree 'chain' restaurants everywhere.
Many chain restaurants have taken the lead in banning smoking. There are so many locations of, say, a McDonald's, that they can't all be listed on this site. Also, the smoking policy is not always chain-wide. Some locations of a chain are owned by the chain corporation, and some are franchised to local owners who may be allowed to go their own way. However, it is safe to say that in almost all US locations, and many overseas locations, of the chains listed below, you can have a smokefree meal. They are mostly hamburger places, except where detailed.

Starbucks (smokefree in all locations)
It is considered an issue by some that Starbucks contracted with Kraft Foods (a subsidiary of Philip Morris tobacco company) for retail distribution. Starbucks beans bought outside a Starbucks may have been handled by Philip Morris. Starbucks make health insurance available to part-time employees - in the US, a very important benefit I'm sorry to say, as health insurance is linked to employment - and buys some of its coffee through the Fair Trade program, which helps small farms organize to get higher prices. Starbucks can make things happen through the same ubiquity that many dislike. Would smaller cafes be going smokefree if not for the competition from Starbucks? Maybe. SmokeFreeWorld confines itself chiefly to the question: can I get a smokefree meal here? [The clincher for me as a business traveler is that Starbucks linked up with T-Mobile to offer WiFi in their cafes, and it just works.]
Subway Sandwiches
Taco Bell (smokefree in all locations)

Wagamama Noodle Bars - chain of noodle bars with locations in the UK, Dublin, Amsterdam and Sydney.
